Whipsaw British Columbia

Our off-road club recently embarked on our third annual adventure to the legendary Whipsaw Trail, located in the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia, with Princeton being the nearest town. The trail offers over 100 kilometers of various obstacles, ranging from easy to difficult. The beauty of Whipsaw is that none of the obstacles are mandatory, except for one particular challenge that even experienced drivers with well-equipped vehicles might struggle with, making it a real test for any off-roader.

Whipsaw is known for being one of the top 10 off-road trails in North America, and each year, our journey to this incredible location brings the group closer together. The trail is constantly evolving due to erosion, rain, snow, and the wear from other vehicles, making every visit a new experience. The terrain is unpredictable, and we always aim to complete it during mid-summer when the snow has mostly cleared from the mountains.

Despite the summer season, the nights on Whipsaw are always cold, with temperatures often dropping below 10°C. On our first year, we faced near-freezing conditions at night, with temperatures close to 0°C. These chilly evenings make the warmth of the campfire and camaraderie among friends even more special.

Our club has made it a tradition to return to Whipsaw each year. When we aren’t tackling the rugged terrain, we’re hanging out at camp, fishing, sharing stories, and laughing at the misadventures of those who couldn’t clear an obstacle. Conversations often shift to vehicle modifications, future upgrades, and plans for the next big trip. It's a trip that strengthens bonds and leaves everyone looking forward to the next year's adventure.

Labour Day: Fun Day, ended up as Tow Day

Rey and Rambo met up at the traditional Timmies in Squamish early AM to explore a famous gatekeeper and a nice lake in the area. The drive is pretty scenic with the Mountains in the back and some fresh snow on the top of the higher mountains.

After airing down, they started up towards the gatekeeper, a few SUVs on the way made way for their Wrangler and Gladiator. Turns out the location is pretty popular and lots of traffic even tho it was early morning. The parking place close to the rec site was packed with vehicles.

That is not a problem for the both, as they kept driving past the parking lot. Where SUVs will not dare to go up. A rock garden packed with rocks enough to stop higher clearence SUVs, but not a stock 4x4. They carried on with thier built rigs.

Upon reaching the gatekeeper, they evaluated the scenario and Rambo decided to stay put. He did not attept to go down on his 35s and only stock skid plates. Rey on the other hand, with his 38s and full underbody armour, accepted the challenged. Going down the massive drop of the keeper and had absolutely no problem at all going down. His gladiator is just a BEAST!

Once down, Rambo parked his Wrangler out of the way, jumped into the Gladiator and went driving towards the lake. Beautiful drive through the forest. Not many pictures where taken, but they had fun exploring the area. Down at the Lake they met with another built up Wrangler, and a happy family camping on the long weekend with the lake fore themselves! The GATEKEEPER promiting the solitude for that family, with our guys probably being the only other people they would be crossing by the next few days.

Rey and Rambo drove back to pick up Rambo's Wrangler, and head back to civilization. They drove up another FSR to have a nice BBQ with a view... The menu of the day was garlic bread and boneless short ribs. Delicious!

On the way up, the Wrangler started heating up as the AC was turned on, and the engine temparature would just stay high. After hours waiting for the temp to cool down. They finally made it down to the highway and believed the temparature issue was rectified on its own. However, right off the higway, temp rose quickly again and FCA Roadside assistantce was contacted.

Rambo's Wrangler is now sitting on Squamish Jeep Dealer waiting for the end of the long weekend to be assecced by their Service Team!

A funday that ended up with a rig towed. Hopefully nothing alarming happend to the SSQTCH and it will be soon back on the trails!

Rey's Gladiator is a true beast and nothing can stop her!
